Restoring life after injury.
Brave Legal is a boutique, highly experienced personal injury law practice with a clear mission – to help restore the lives of our clients after an injury.
We understand that suffering an injury or illness caused by someone else’s negligence can be an extremely difficult and traumatic experience. Navigating the legal process to obtain compensation can seem daunting. Our caring and compassionate approach, combined with our expertise and tenacity, ensures we achieve exceptional outcomes for our clients.
We are committed to obtaining the maximum financial compensation possible for all our clients but, just as importantly, we are dedicated to providing the support necessary to make the legal process as simple and stress free as possible.
Brave Legal was founded by Principal Lawyer Bree Knoester who has over 18 years’ experience as both a barrister and as a solicitor. Bree is also one of Australia’s most awarded personal injury lawyers, being one of only a select few to be recognised by Doyle’s Guide in 2020 as a ‘Preeminent practitioner’ in the areas of both work injury compensation and dust diseases compensation. Bree was also named personal injury litigation 'Lawyer of the Year' in the 2020 edition of the Best Lawyers in Australia guide.
No Win, No Fee
We provide expert advice to assess and maximise your legal entitlements on a no-win, no-fee basis. This means you will only be required to pay legal fees if we achieve a successful outcome.
We work on the basis that you deserve to receive the majority of your compensation and we will reduce our fees where necessary to ensure this is the case.

Bree has appeared in key Workcover decisions, including in the High Court, and has particular expertise in catastrophic industrial accidents and work-related dust diseases, recently obtaining one of the highest possible awards for a worker with silicosis in Victoria. In July 2020, Bree was also involved in a joint investigation into the unfairness of the Workcover system together with ABC’s Four Corners.
Brave Legal can advise and guide you through a compensation claim if you are suffering from a dust disease such as asbestosis, silicosis, lung cancer or mesothelioma.
Having grown up in the Latrobe Valley, the location of the greatest number of mesothelioma diagnoses in Victoria, Bree has seen first-hand the impact a dust disease can have.
If you or a family member have received a recent diagnosis, it is important to obtain legal advice straight away. Contacting Brave Legal will ensure you receive the necessary expertise and support as you seek the compensation you deserve.
Our knowledge and experience in this highly specialised area was acknowledged by Doyle’s Guide in 2020 when Bree was recognised as a ‘Preeminent Practitioner’ in Dust Diseases law, one of only four lawyers in Victoria to receive this recognition.
Slips, trips and falls can be small events with big consequences. If you have suffered an injury due to someone else’s negligence, it is important to understand your rights and entitlements.
We have extensive experience in claims against Councils, occupiers, supermarkets, public venues and similar entities. We are experts in the laws that govern public liability and can guide you through the avenues to compensation.
Sexual and institutional abuse
At Brave Legal we understand the impact of abuse and will investigate your claim sensitively using a trauma-informed approach. We are experienced in representing clients who were sexually abused by individuals, in institutions, or when being medically treated, and we are fearless in seeking compensation in these matters.
Our team is also experienced in representing groups in cases of widespread and systemic abuse. Bree was recently recognised for her work in obtaining compensation for a group of patients assaulted by their treating neurologist and continues to assist patient groups in current claims against medical practitioners who have assaulted patients in a medical setting. We are extremely proud that our work in this area has resulted in the health practitioner’s regulator (AHPRA) changing the way they monitor their members.
Brave Legal regularly provides advice to clients of knowmore, a free legal service assisting survivors of institutional abuse.
